Day 1: Arrival at JRO
Your Tanzanian adventure commences as you step foot on the rich soil of Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). At this pivotal point of embarkation, our experienced team will extend a warm welcome, marking the commencement of your journey with us. After your arrival at JRO, we will ensure your seamless transfer to your accommodation in Arusha, setting the stage for your forthcoming days of anticipation and excitement.
Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Your Kilimanjaro journey begins at the Marangu Gate (1,860 meters or 6,102 feet). On Day 1, you’ll register, meet your experienced guides and dedicated porters, and embark on a 3 to 4-hour hike through the enchanting rainforests. The trail is filled with unique flora and fauna. Your first night will be spent at the Mandara Hut (2,700 meters or 8,858 feet).
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
On Day 3, you’ll continue your adventure from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut. This involves a 6 to 7-hour hike covering approximately 11 kilometers (7 miles). As you ascend, the landscape transforms from rainforest to moorland, providing captivating views along the way.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
Day 4 is a crucial acclimatization day at Horombo Hut. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the surrounding area or take short hikes to higher elevations. This day helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude, an essential step for summit success.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
The summit attempt begins either late on Day 5 or early on the following day, depending on your pace. Your ascent will take you through challenging scree slopes and past the mesmerizing Gilman’s Point (5,681 meters or 18,638 feet). Finally, you’ll reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters or 19,341 feet), the highest point in Africa, where you’ll celebrate your remarkable achievement. Afterward, descend to Horombo Hut.
Day 6: Summit Day - Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Horombo Hut
The summit attempt begins either late on Day 5 or early on the following day, depending on your pace. Your ascent will take you through challenging scree slopes and past the mesmerizing Gilman’s Point (5,681 meters or 18,638 feet). Finally, you’ll reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters or 19,341 feet), the highest point in Africa, where you’ll celebrate your remarkable achievement. Afterward, descend to Horombo Hut.
Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
On Day 6, continue your descent from Horombo Hut to the Marangu Gate, where your unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure concludes.
Day 8: Departure
Here, at the Marangu Gate, your achievement is celebrated with a summit certificate, a testament to your indomitable spirit. The final leg of your adventure involves a return to your Arusha accommodation, where you’ll relish in the memories of this extraordinary feat.
Depending on your itinerary, you may opt for an additional night in Arusha or proceed with your departure plans, departing from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) with a heart full of awe and accomplishment.
